2 Ways to Increase Concentration in Distractible Children!
Min Jung KwonShare
Today, we will talk about conversation techniques that can be used with children who are distracted or have difficulty concentrating.
Things you can do to improve your attention at home
I would like to talk more about the various activities.

1) First, when having a conversation, just remember three things : “concentration,” “memory,” and “action.”
<Focus>
When you are talking or giving instructions, make eye contact and always speak clearly and concisely to help people focus.
For example, if you decide to clean up the toys at 5 o'clock, look at your child, focus their attention, and say, "I'll clean up at 5 o'clock."
<Memory>
And it would be good if you could check if they remember the instructions you just gave them. It's easier to remember when you see them with your own eyes, so it would be better if you showed them your watch or your phone and said, "You have to clean up at 5 o'clock."
For younger children, you can look at a timer like this and say, “When it makes a noise, it’s time to clean up.” Then ask your child, “What did you just say?”
<Action>
When the time is up, give your child another prompt to do what he or she promised without saying much. You can show him or her the phone or timer again and say, “It’s 5 o’clock.”
When your child does well, praise him/her for keeping his/her promise, and if he/she does not clean up, start cleaning up with him/her and give him/her a concise instruction, such as, “It is time to clean up.”

1) Second, focus on ‘attractive activities’ that your child can focus on and be interested in rather than activities that he or she is not interested in.
Depending on their temperament, it can be a game that involves sitting still , or it can be a sport that involves active movement to help them focus .
First, here are three activities you can do at home:
- Board games like Jenga or Speed Stacking where the order of the pieces is passed quickly and the results appear right away if you don't focus are very helpful for concentration .
- Treasure hunts are also great . Hide several items that your child might like around the house and let them find them . If your child has trouble concentrating , take pictures of the items in advance and let them look at the pictures and find them one by one . If you let them find a wider variety of items without pictures, they will need higher attention and memory .
- Cup shuffling is a great attention game . Prepare three cups and hide your child's favorite items or snacks under them . Quickly switch the cups and have your child find which cup the hidden item is under .
Activities you can do outside:
I would recommend a few more exercises that are simple and don't require much strategy .
- Activities like swimming, where you have to move quickly toward a set goal, or inline skating , where you can lose your balance if you lose focus even a little, may be better suited for children with poor attention spans than soccer, where you have to think about various rules while skating .
- However, as I said, the priority is to find an ' attractive activity ' that the child can focus on , so if there is an exercise that suits the child's interest or personality , help the child make friends and improve concentration through that physical activity .
Selection and focus are important,
Don't forget that there are many ways to increase your concentration through various activities :)
